In November 2013, the then 12- and 14-year-old brothers and friends Ivo and Ilja Ruf and Nikolai Gast founded their trio on the occasion of the Federal Competition Jugend musiziert, which took place the following year. After numerous awards and concerts, including at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Scharwenka Chamber Music Festival, and the Montafoner Resonanzen, they have become a fixture in the German chamber music scene. Their playing is characterized by their natural approach to both classical music and tango, klezmer, and jazz. They have worked with Sabine Meyer, Avi Avital, and the Philharmonic Orchestra Baden-Baden, among others.
In February 2019, the trio released their debut CD ‘Mozart On the Road’, which was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in the category “Grenzgänge” as well as for the OPUS KLASSIK in the categories “Young Artist of the Year”, “Chamber Music Recording”, “Classical Without Borders”, and “Innovative Concert”.
In February 2024, the new album “Mozart’s Nighttrain” was released, featuring compositions by Ilja Ruf and W. A. Mozart. It received numerous positive reviews and coverage in newspapers and on radio (including DLF, NDR, hr2, rbb). The presentation took place at two sold-out release concerts at the Kolosseum in Lübeck.
