As a tailored version of the Styrian Klezmore Orchestra around clarinetist and bandleader Moritz Weiß, the Styrian Klezmore Pocket Band fits into almost any pocket, yet remains as powerful, multifaceted, and adaptable as the full orchestra. With playful ease, it moves between klezmer, Yiddish, and Eastern and Southeastern European music and culture. At its core is a transcultural dialogue that combines traditional melodies with new compositions and merges jazz improvisations with rhapsodic passion into a multifaceted soundscape. Sometimes a noble chamber ensemble of Central European origin sounds, sometimes a raucous street band, sometimes an energetic wedding band, sometimes a melancholic funeral procession. The Pocket Band impresses with its sonic diversity on stages and festivals across Europe and has celebrated as a street act in pedestrian zones in Croatia, Austria, and Germany the immediate encounter with the audience. In respectful engagement with cultural roots and with great artistic freedom, the Pocket Band forms a sound collective that aims to express its Styrian perspective on a multi-layered sound world.
