Description
Shakespeare's most famous tragedy is imaginatively developed by the British avant-garde troupe Imitating the Dog: an aging acting couple recalls how they once portrayed "Romeo and Juliet" on camera. An ode to the profound experience of first and last love. The two older actors, once a couple, reunite after fifty years. She has long been living with memory loss, while he clings to memories that she can only barely grasp. Clearly, they still have some clarifications to make, not only in matters of the heart: decisions about life and death must be made, and old wounds need to be healed at last. As the lost television version of "Romeo and Juliet" from 1965, in which they played the lead roles, comes back to life around them, their bittersweet past collides with the present. Live performance and film merge in this piece into a moving exploration of love, memory, and the stories we hold onto while everything else fades away.
