Radio On

Description

"Christopher Petit's cult classic Radio On is one of the most remarkable feature film debuts in British cinema – a haunting blend of mysterious crime story and existential road movie, peppered with ghostly impressions of the English landscape and the ruthless Thatcher era. In breathtaking black-and-white shots by Wim Wenders' camera assistant Martin Schäfer, Radio On follows a London DJ driving east towards Bristol to investigate his brother's death – accompanied by a thrilling new wave soundtrack by David Bowie, Kraftwerk, Lene Lovich, Ian Dury, Robert Fripp, and Devo, and featuring an early film appearance by Sting." (The Belcourt) "I was interested in characters, relationships, and class – all the usual themes of English cinema – much less than the weather, landscapes, and soundtracks or the fact that driving and cinema are both forms of forward movement. It was the era of the portable cassette, with which you could create your own soundtracks for the first time and play them while driving: the windshield as cinema."
