Description

A dramatic evening of authorship between performative reading and electroacoustic improvisation: The Ukrainian author Juri Andruchowytsch and the Polish Karbido trio combine language, sound, and rhythm into a musical-literary experiment that sometimes unfolds the energy of punk. The basis is Andruchowytsch's novel «Radio Nacht», whose texts the author himself performs.
At the center is Josip Rotsky, barricade pianist of the «Revolution of Dignity», who becomes famous as the «Aggressor». Andruchowytsch takes up a real figure from the «Euromaidan» of 2013/14 and continues it fictionally: Rotsky flees to the Swiss Alps, is imprisoned after a grotesque assassination attempt, and broadcasts an imaginary radio program from hiding about flight as a permanent condition.
A narrative strand of «Radio Nacht» goes back to the piece «The Extremist», which Andruchowytsch wrote in 2015 on behalf of the Chur group «ressort k». The allusions to the Graubünden grand hotel industry appear as a fine symbol that the political upheavals in Ukraine also affect us. The event takes place in German with Ukrainian subtitles.

RADIO NACHT is a unique live radio play that combines literature and music. Juri Andruchowytsch presents his novel «Radio Nacht» in a performative reading, accompanied by the band Karbido. The event takes place at the Postremise in Chur, Switzerland.
