Right-wing extremist attitudes, hate online, and the radicalization of young people threaten our democracy and are increasingly engaging schools, youth work, and civil society in Vorarlberg. How does right-wing extremism develop, what role do social media and algorithms play in spreading hostile ideologies, how can radicalization processes be detected early – and what is needed for people to successfully exit extremist milieus? Right-wing extremism researcher Bernhard Weidinger (DÖW – Documentation Archive of Austrian Resistance) will present the newly published edition of the "Handbook of Right-Wing Extremism in Austria" at the beginning. Afterwards, he will discuss with Johannes Pircher-Sanou, Managing Director of Neustart, who has extensive experience in the resocialization and deradicalization of offenders, and Monika Ruppe, a teacher at HAK/HAS Lustenau, who encounters the effects of online radicalization among adolescents in her daily school routine.
