Description

Films not only show history – they tell politics. In cooperation with the Polit-Forum Bern, REX and Lichtspiel dedicate their 14th joint series to the diverse forms of political film. In ten conversations of about 75 minutes each, we explore specific aspects of political cinema together with two guests each. We invite a multi-voiced dialogue about film as a political tool and cinema as a place of societal debate – accompanied by a film program with classics and discoveries. Featuring: Vania Alleva, Akwasi Glenn Asumadu, Denise Bertschi, Eva-Maria Bertschy, Jean-Stéphane Bron, Laura Coppens, Serena Owusua Dankwa, Marcy Goldberg, Vinzenz Hediger, Markus Imhoof, Anne-Sophie Keller, Ania Anna Mathis, Albina Muhtari, Gertrud Pinkus, Meret Ruggle, Samir, Bernhard C. Schär, Cyril Schäublin, Damir Skenderovic, Julia Zutavern. We thank all 20 discussion partners who gift us with their time, ideas, and enthusiasm for discussion; their generosity makes this event possible. The conversations are moderated by Marcy Goldberg and Stefan Humbel and take place once a month, alternating Wednesdays at 18:15, at REX and Lichtspiel. Marcy Goldberg is a Swiss-Canadian film and cultural scholar focusing on Swiss film history. She is also a specialist in dramaturgy, documentary film, and gender studies. She moderates discussions and panels at various festivals and cultural events and works as a freelance publicist, university lecturer, and media consultant. Stefan Humbel is engaged with students and their literatures at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, both at the Swiss Literature Institute in Biel and in the interdisciplinary Master CAP. Besides his teaching, he is particularly interested in unfinished texts and mediation forms of various artistic works and media. At Kino Lichtspiel, he has been loading films into projectors for years and is involved in programming and projects. Kick-off on 9.09., 18:15 at Lichtspiel. Film screenings
