Description
In 1987, Pippo Pollina first took the stage as a songwriter – in a small theater near Bern. Forty years later, the Sicilian musician looks back on an extraordinary career: 25 albums, over 200 published songs, and around 5000 concerts in about 20 countries across three continents. Pollina's music knows no boundaries. His open-minded attitude has led him to collaborate with renowned songwriters from various European language areas such as Konstantin Wecker, Georges Moustaki, Schmidbauer & Kälberer, Paolo Conte, Franco Battiato, Inti Illimani, and Rebekka Bakken. He has also worked with significant symphony orchestras – including the London Session Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Orchestra Toscanini, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Zurich, and the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra – as well as with musicians from jazz, rock, and world music like Charlie Mariano and Agricantus. Despite the stylistic diversity, one thing has always remained central for Pollina: the song as the artistic core. After four decades of intense stage work and before a longer creative break, Pippo Pollina now presents a reduced solo program. From his rich repertoire, a concert emerges that combines timeless classics with new songs – complemented by rarely played pieces and essential hits. As he alternates between piano and guitar, unpublished photos and videos are projected, showcasing his extraordinary story: from Palermo in the 1980s, marked by the fight against the Mafia and a societal crisis, to his travels with guitar and sleeping bag, and on to international tours and early companions like Linard Bardill or Konstantin Wecker. In the second part of the concert, Pippo Pollina will be accompanied by musician Elisa Sandrini. Already appreciated by the audience during the last tour of the Sicilian songwriter, the singer, pianist, and accordionist enriches Pollina's songs with her harmonious voice.
