Perfect Ruins

Description

Perfect Ruins transforms stains, ruptures, and remnants formed on the body into a sensory language. The body, language, and material become elements that draw out the narratives of these sensations. This performance reflects on the body’s sense of time as it emerges between transformation, disappearance, and persistence. Wounds and fractures, once perceived as deficiencies, lead toward new sensations and vitality through the traces and transformations of the body. The movements and vibrations between completeness and incompleteness are not directed toward a final result, but instead become a process of capturing moments of change. Personal narratives, the body, and the properties of material reveal these moments, inviting others into this sensory experience. Artist's statement: Is Perfect Ruins a state of perfection? Or is it a continuous movement toward filling something absent?
As if standing before the scene of an incident, a perfect moment in which everything has already taken place, I took out my diary. And I repeat:
“Perfect!”
“No! (Nein!)”
“Work(-ing)!”
These voices merge into one and begin to push me away. I wanted to hide behind my own flesh, somewhere safer.
At the moment I relentlessly try to peel away the unfamiliar calluses of myself, at the moment
I confront that self—I hope that moment may become more complete than anything else, and more awe-inspiring than any other moment. Duration:
