Description

Content/Context A middle-aged man works as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. On his way to work, he listens to music on cassettes, loves books, enjoys photographing trees, visits a bathhouse and his regular pub. He seems content with his simple life, but a series of chance encounters repeatedly remind him of his past. Wim Wenders unfolds his cinematic homage to his role model Yasujiro Ozu with impressive tranquility, where hints of dramatic intensifications must give way to the gentle equanimity of the images.
