Description

Get a glimpse into the daily lives of people with disabilities. The exhibition entertains and educates the general public, primarily aimed at elementary and high school students. It was created and funded by the Sirius Foundation. It also features a presentation by the ARPIDA organization. Admission is free. The exhibition presents the lives of people with disabilities in an interactive way: it not only informs visitors about the challenges but also allows them to experience it firsthand. Students and teachers appreciate the unusual approach. They can also use prepared worksheets and methodological guidelines for working with the exhibition in their teaching. "In the previous eleven cities, more than 1,100 school classes and children's groups have visited the exhibition, totaling over 84,000 visitors. We are glad that people are interested in the topic, as it opens up space for mutual understanding and awareness," says project manager Vladimíra Tvrdková. The subtitle of the exhibition, "An Unusual Journey into the World of People with Disabilities," accurately describes what visitors can expect. They embark on a real journey: from preparing for the trip, navigating the terrain, and using transportation, to sharing experiences from their travels. The exhibition includes, for example, a model bus or a dark tunnel that complicates orientation. "We have experience with projects of this type since 2013, and they have always attracted great interest from visitors and teachers," says Dana Lipová, director of the Sirius Foundation. "We mainly want to show children and young people in an interesting way how people with disabilities live. They can briefly find themselves in their world and see the world from their perspective. From the very nice reactions we receive, we conclude that it really works." The exhibition is divided into several stages, dedicated to various tasks and individual health impairments. Visitors will personally experience how people with disabilities, both adults and children, cope with everyday life situations. For a healthy person, these are so automatic and problem-free that they are often surprised by how many obstacles they suddenly have to deal with. The exhibition will also familiarize them with the principles of proper communication with such individuals and teach them how to sensitively and effectively offer help. "One thing is to talk about disabilities, but it is completely different to experience what it is like to live with a health impairment," adds project manager Vladimíra Tvrdková. "For visitors, it is an experience they can remember for their entire lives and, as a result, perhaps better assist a person with a disability in many everyday situations." Leading specialists in assisting people with disabilities contributed to the exhibition's design. The entire exhibition is loaned and installed free of charge by the Sirius Foundation, which has been systematically addressing the issues of at-risk and disadvantaged children for eighteen years. || Free Educational Programs for Schools || As part of the exhibition, free educational programs for schools are conducted, which must be reserved in advance. The educational program introduces visitors to the lives of people with visual, auditory, and physical disabilities through personal experiences. Students have the opportunity to embark on an unusual journey, during which they will experience what it is like to travel while sometimes having difficulty hearing, at other times having limited mobility, or not seeing while completing certain tasks. The exhibition will be complemented by artistic works from the ARPIDA center. Contact for booking school groups: Mgr. You can also use the online booking form at www.muzeumcb.cz in the Education section. || ARPIDA Center || The corridor section of the exhibition is dedicated to the presentation of the ARPIDA center for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities. This South Bohemian organization has been helping children, young people, and adults with disabilities live the fullest and most natural lives since 1993. As a non-governmental non-profit organization, it offers comprehensive care under one roof. This allows families to receive professional help without unnecessary running between various institutions and specialists. The main goal of the ARPIDA center is to help each person achieve the highest possible level of independence and enable them to participate in everyday life in their natural environment. ARPIDA places great emphasis on collaboration with families, which it sees as full-fledged partners of professionals. Families are often the ones who can best support the long-term development of a child or adult with a disability.
