Description
Bach published the four parts of his Clavierübung between 1726 and 1742. While parts I, II+IV are dedicated to plucked keyboard instruments, Bach turns to the organ in part III and its characteristic forms such as the chorale arrangement.
Bach draws the chorales from Luther's Catechism, as the work was published in 1739 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Reformation's introduction in Leipzig. Luther's catechism hymns succinctly and memorably express his reformative ideas, which Bach translates into music in a masterful way.
