One's for Sorrow, two's for Joy

Description

Mourning women, midwives, seers, witches: TRËI sings songs of women who watch over the beds of the living and the dying. Crows, ravens, and magpies accompany their stories and songs, foretelling war, bringing good news. Poetically and honestly, TRËI deals with persecution, empowerment, and femininity, honoring all who have accompanied people singing at the edge of life for centuries. TRËI (Nordmann, Şimşek, Miribung) performs Vocal Folk from various cultures, bringing their own arrangements and compositions to the stage. The trio performs scenic concert projects and interdisciplinary collaborations that continually revolve around the question of humanity. The three women weave their different backgrounds and celebrate diversity in all its forms. TRËI is based in Basel; the name of the trio comes from Ladin, a Rhaeto-Romance minority language from the Italian Alps. Abélia Nordmann, voice, harmonium, and accordion; Gizem Şimşek, voice, psalter, and Istanbul lyre; Mara Miribung, voice and cello.
