OltreMarea | Bologna - Post-Rock, Soul, Funk, electronic music

Description

Oltremarea is a band from Bologna that stands for an open, contemporary sound that consciously leaves genre boundaries behind. Born in a phase of societal silence and inner movement, the band combines emotional depth with sonic curiosity and a strong sense of atmosphere. At the center is the charismatic voice of Donata Chiari, whose singing appears equally vulnerable and powerful. She not only melodically carries the songs but also gives them a narrative presence that immediately transfers to the audience. Around her, a multi-layered soundscape unfolds, drawing elements from post-rock, soul, electronic music, funk, and contemporary songwriting without sticking to a specific style. With their debut album "Stazione Meteo 50" (2025), Oltremarea presents a work that is less conceived as a classic collection of songs, but rather as a musical "weather report of feelings." The pieces develop organically, alternating between calm, introspective passages and dense, pulsating moments, creating a strong emotional dramaturgy. The music does not describe states from the outside but invites experiencing moods. Live, Oltremarea impresses with intensity and presence. The band creates spaces where listening is just as important as the shared experience of sound, dynamics, and tension. There is always a balance between fine elaboration and immediate energy — an approach that works both on club and festival stages. Oltremarea represents a new generation of Italian bands that are rooted locally and at the same time internationally connectable: urban, reflective, and open to experiments — with a sound that takes time but resonates long after.
