All the sensuality of Piazzolla in a flamboyant and poetic little opera.
With María de Buenos Aires, Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer created in 1968 an unclassifiable work, between opera, musical theater, and raw poetry, which they call "operita", for lack of a better term. Their María is surrealist, provocative, rooted in the city and in the imagination, she resembles nothing else, she is a metamorphosis, a form that refuses to settle, a voice that crosses styles, escapes genres, upsets expectations. Violent, sensual, and poetic, this María speaks to our time. Led by a top-level cast and musicians gathered around William Sabatier, this recreation is constantly evolving. The staging by Amélie Parias, sober and incisive, faithfully follows Ferrer's text, leaving room for mystery, tension, and vertigo.
On November 26th, the evening continues with a Milonga, an invitation to dance the tango.
