Since the end of 2025, a Swiss frontman has breathed new life into the veteran band: Basel's Gianni Pontillo is the new voice of the overbands. He is looking forward to an emotionally charged home game at the Pratteler Rocktempel. Founded in 1968 in the Scottish town of Dunfermline, Nazareth, along with colleagues like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Black Sabbath, belongs to the first hard'n'heavy generation in music history. With nearly 60 million records sold worldwide, Nazareth, alongside Simple Minds, is the most successful music group in Scotland internationally. Since last December, Gianni Pontillo has been at the helm. The Basel native has made a name for himself over the past thirty years with Pure Inc, The Order, Fun Halen, Pontillo & The Vintage Crew, and most recently with German heavy rockers Victory. Now, with Nazareth, the next career step follows. Bassist Pete Agnew, the last remaining original member of the rock institution, first contacted Gianni at the end of 2025. "Pete personally called me after someone from the scene sent him a video of me. I could hardly believe it. The cult band Nazareth. The legendary co-founders of hard rock. I have known and loved this band since my childhood. I saw my parents dancing to 'Love Hurts' in the living room, and they even had a 'Greatest Hits' record by Nazareth in their collection." Meanwhile, Nazareth, together with Pontillo, has already played several concerts, and the newcomer feels very comfortable in his new role: "It's just great! The band guys, the crew, and the whole environment are really awesome. Respect is the be-all and end-all here. You hardly see that anymore in the music business today." The reactions from fans are also very positive. "I've already met many die-hard fans, and everyone is very happy with me as the new frontman. They've also shared some exciting stories about the band and the original singer Dan McCafferty." Interpreting Nazareth's timeless classics is a lot of fun for Pontillo. When asked about personal favorites, he replies: "I actually like all songs. But 'Hair Of The Dog' and 'Whiskey Drinkin’ Woman' are two absolute highlights. One has a really cool rock groove, the other is a killer blues number with a very funny text. Pete and I sing in unison here, and our voices harmonize perfectly." In November, Pontillo will come to Pratteln with his new band for the first time. A very special moment for the singer: "The Z7 is my home, I basically grew up with the place. I visited my very first concert here and have already played many times as a support act for great bands. The venue is cult, sound-wise top-notch, and the whole team is just mega. I'm already looking forward to this concert. It will be very emotional because friends and family will all be there. It will be a great celebration." Participants: Nazareth
