In the past, kings kept jesters from the people. Today, the rulers make the people fools. "It is true that rulers can keep some people fools for a while and some people fools all the time, but never all people all the time," once thought U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. He said it and was shot. For life-saving reasons, it is advisable for rulers today to appear smarter than their jesters. In monarchy, jesters made jokes about their king. In democracy, the rulers take on this honorary role themselves. Because the jesters of old have become rare. Many modern jesters no longer pressure the rulers but rather serve at their court. In the past, the court jester's wit reflected the king's wisdom. Today, a jester can only be as clever as his ruler is foolish. It used to be advantageous to be a jester at court. Because when the king went to war, the jester stayed behind. Today, the ruler sends him away instead. He lets his jester go. And into battle. With a fool's march. Until the jester falls. Today's jester must recognize in time when he no longer wants to be a fool. He must sit at the foot of the throne and watch carefully when it begins to wobble. So, let's uphold the freedom of jesters, or the narrative will rule. And then the jesters will be in trouble. And a fool without a head is a cripple for life.
