In conversation with fellow author Sophia Merwald, who recently published the novel "Sperrgut," Clemens J. Setz presents his new collection of stories at Suhrkamp Verlag, "My Life as a Noise Band": Paul's language is noise. These are monstrously distorted tracks on which he screams his despair with a distorted voice. He spends most of his life alone, emptiness prevails off stage, and no one seems to understand him and his lyrics. Except for Mark, who is part of the band but is increasingly withdrawing — and until Paul meets Annika after a concert. She shares his fascination with noise bands like Hanatarash or Atrax Morgue, and Paul falls instantly in love with her. When they have a child, his pressure decreases, and he tries to express everything in murderous loud music. But what remains of his art now? And why has Mark finally disappeared?
