Public night watchman city tour focusing on Lucerne and the Swiss Confederation from the 12th to the 18th century.
The tour begins with the sound of the fire horn, followed by the night watchman's call. And off we go. The night watchman tells about his life in a lowly status and about other dishonest professions. Using the 400-year-old Martini plan, he explains the route of your tour and shows you sights of Old Lucerne. Many of these are still preserved today and some of them you will get to know better today.
You start with the landmark of Lucerne, the Water Tower and the later built Chapel Bridge. The night watchman reports on the interior of the tower, the dungeon, the former torture chamber, and the winding up in the Obgaden.
At Kapellplatz you hear interesting things about medieval society and life in the flourishing city and Republic of Lucerne. Then you continue through Furrengasse, where a ghost and all kinds of Toggelis used to cause mischief.
At Kornmarkt you see the town hall, the town hall tower with its lookout core, and the guild room of the Pfistern. You see the Lucerne foot and the ell and you hear the story of the giant of Reiden.
In Brandgässli follows the legend of the murder night before you move to Weinmarkt, where Easter plays were performed in the past. You hear the poem of death from the final act of Cenodoxus, performed in Lucerne in 1609.
Then you continue to the lower Weinmarkt, the first court square of the city of Lucerne. In Zöpfli by the river, it is about law and order and the painful medieval judiciary. You learn details about the interrogation methods and punishments to body and life that were common at the time….
Then you cross the first bridge of Lucerne to the showcase of the Old Suidtersche Pharmacy.
Afterwards, you go to the Ritter Palace, where you hear the story of Giovanni Lynzo alias Hans von Trient.
