What happens when a name is sung instead of spoken? In the village of Khongthong in the Khasi Hills of India, names have protective powers and are sung or whistled. The melodies are given to babies by their mothers. The documentary follows two women on their journey. Names in Motion – A Film Series The Ethnological Museum is looking for a new name. With this film series, we explore how names are contested, erased, or reimagined. In connection with the exhibition "Renaming – People, Things, Places," the screenings invite reflection on what it means to (re)name the worlds we live in.
