by Alain Tanner(Switzerland) Jeanne and Marie, one a student in search of adventure, the other a saleswoman, on their way to her native countryside. They meet while hitchhiking in Romandy and decide to continue the journey together. But soon, they are attacked by two men, defend themselves violently, and must escape. Another adventure begins. Now armed with a gun, they 'play' at being criminals and flee further and further away. But how far can they go? What is the end of Switzerland? How can they truly save themselves?
Directed by a masterful filmmaker, the film contains all the ingredients of a crime fiction. But beyond that, it is primarily a fable, a feminist road movie, a radical narrative of the refusal of social order, and a critique of Swiss society with its narrow-mindedness. An exciting and denunciatory Thelma and Louise, well ahead of its time…
