Description

Rejoicing & Celebration: A gigantic festive music!
Mendelssohn's symphony-cantata "Lobgesang" is a work of jubilation, intended for the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg, which was to be commemorated in 1840 by the city of Leipzig with special music. Mendelssohn composed a festive music that is somewhere between church and concert hall: The symphonic structure, the use of vocal voices and biblical texts, and the absence of an oratorical plot are the special features of the composition, which also spans a wide thematic arc and interprets the invention of the printing press in parallel with the spiritual enlightenment of humanity.
In connection with the Violin Concerto in E minor, which as a passionate, romantic solo concerto has long been one of the most famous concerts of all, two works from the same period of creation will be performed, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the jubilation and upheaval of the 1840s in Leipzig.
