Description
GUEST PERFORMANCE MASCHA KALÉKO - The Nightingale in My Garden Is Silent...
A musically narrated homage to a special woman. Judith Jakob traces the life of the poetess through her verses and diary entries. She is musically supported at the piano by Joachim Jezewski. Duration of the event: approx. 2 hours (including a break after about 50 minutes). On a lyrical-musical journey, actress and singer Judith Jakob, whom you know from her programs with Melanie Haupt on our stage, recounts the life of Mascha Kaléko through poems and diary entries. She is accompanied at the piano by pianist and composer Joachim Jezewski. Kaléko's poetry deals with everyday situations that are not unfamiliar to us: love and separation, hope and loneliness. The Jewish "everyday poet" from Chrzanów (today Poland), who moved to Germany as a child, published her first poems at the age of 22 and captured the hearts of people in Berlin during the Weimar Republic. Her verses are melancholic-witty with a touch of irony; Kaléko captures the tone of her time. And she meets Kurt Tucholsky and Claire Waldoff, among others, she is compared to Joachim Ringelnatz and Heinrich Heine.
After fleeing Germany during National Socialism, she spends years in poverty and isolation in the USA; she spends the last 15 years of her life in Israel.
The musical production is a tribute to an extraordinary woman whose poetry has not lost its relevance. "I will be silent, but my song continues." (Mascha Kaléko)" Rights to the works of Mascha Kaléko: dtv Verlagsgesellschaft, Munich
