Louis Jucker alone with his instrument-filled suitcases: This is Louis Jucker's ‘Suitcase Suite’, solo. Louis Jucker becomes almost like a hyperactive lab technician, switching from one instrument to the next, multiplying himself, accompanied by his suitcases. He sings folk songs with a voice that seems to come from somewhere else. His suitcases sing Louis Jucker, it becomes a concert and at the same time a distinctive performance. His fondness for second-hand suitcases has lasted a long time. Maybe because Louis Jucker only travels by train, maybe because they embody the transience of time, the displacement and impermanence of places, and the instability of things. Or simply for practical reasons – because suitcases allow Louis to easily store and transport his electroacoustic DIY instruments and all kinds of small sound tricks. He will certainly unpack his suitcases with great pleasure on the Royal stage, play with them, be played by them. His new album «Suitcase Suite» was entirely written with an instrumentarium of about fifteen suitcases that he built in his attic. A process that combines everything he likes to do: rummaging in thrift stores, tinkering in the attic, creatively using coincidences and clumsiness, making strings vibrate, turning knobs, sonifying mechanisms, distorting sounds and images, pulling cables, and singing into dictation devices. Besides his concert at the Royal, Louis will exhibit his ‘Pharmacy of Songs’ in the Spaghetti-Space from September 24 to October 17, healing us with music, issuing prescriptions; whether homeopathic or conventional medicine.
