LOS CAPITANES DEL SON is the melting pot of three experienced, professional Salsa and Son musicians from Basel. Their passion for Cuban music merges into a pulsating, high-energy blend of three cultures. The Musical Director Leonardo Salazar (Conga, Percussion) from Santiago de Cuba writes original Salsa songs for the repertoire and is undoubtedly the specialist for authentic arrangements. No wonder, as he has performed with all the prominent names in professional Salsa in Europe and Cuba. Yaroldy Abreu, one of the most prominent Cuban percussionists of his generation, described Leonardo Salazar as a prodigy. The organizer and guitarist Tresero, Jörg Hurter, has been playing the traditional three-string Salsa guitar ‘Tres Cubano’ for over ten years and brings his own style from his long career in jazz, pop, and rock. He has played with various Latin greats like Roberto Marcano, Ludmilla Merceròn, and others. Noureddine Wenger, a trombonist with Moroccan roots, plays in all the popular Latin projects in Basel and captivates with his youthful freshness and inspired playing. Joining them are various musicians from the professional Son and Salsa scene, including Michel Valdes (Cuba – lead vocals, maracas, gujiro) and Fabio Pelaez (Ecuador – bass). Be surprised! An event of the 21st “Lichtblicke Kulturnacht Liestal 2026”: 5 different sets of 30 minutes each at 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, and 22:00. Admission is CHF 25.—, which includes the culture pass and grants access to all other events of the cultural night.
