In his book “Dry” (2025), Daniel Wagner tells about life with an addiction disorder. On this evening, we will therefore deal with addiction, but also with hope and the question of how we understand illness and how healing is possible. Together, we dive into a compelling book that addresses alcohol use disorders with unflinching honesty and at the same time touchingly. The discussion is complemented by expert impulses from medicine and literature in the context of Medical Humanities. This interdisciplinary field connects medicine with art, humanities, cultural and social sciences and opens up new perspectives on illness, healing, and humanity. The themed evening is a cooperation of the UB Medicine, the Medical Humanities of the Medical Faculty, and the German Seminar of the University of Basel.
