At dawn, Alva sets out to climb the Chur local mountain Calanda – nearly two thousand meters above sea level, alone, with a backpack full of questions. A message that shakes her life has driven her to this height: How much weakness is she allowed to admit, how much stress can her love withstand – and what does she owe Baran and Cla, who were once a couple and with whom she is connected in a web of desire, guilt, and care? As the path becomes steeper, the present and memories of her grandmother, escape and homelessness, earlier decisions that reach into this day, intertwine. Angelika Overath, born in 1957 in Karlsruhe, lives as a writer, journalist, poet, and lecturer in Sent in the Lower Engadine. She has received multiple awards, including the Egon-Erwin-Kisch Prize for literary reportage and the Bündner Literature Prize. Together with her husband, the literary scholar and essayist Manfred Koch, she runs a writing school in Sent.
