We were so excited that we absolutely wanted to invite Markus Orths with this book. They appear in "The Enthusiasts", probably the most turbulent and daring novel in a long time, which on a daredevil way explores the boundaries of storytelling and what human-made art is. Also included: a mysterious Thai woman, an infinitely lovable, book-loving, and stubborn mother who disappears without a trace, and a father who only answers unprecedented questions. Markus Orths was born in 1969 in Viersen, studied philosophy, Romance studies, and English, and lives in Karlsruhe. So far, he has published sixteen novels and collections of stories, including Lehrerzimmer, Das Zimmermädchen, Alpha & Omega, Max, Picknick im Dunkeln, and Mary & Claire. In February 2026, The Enthusiasts will be published by Galiani Verlag. Some of his books have been translated into a total of nineteen languages and awarded multiple times, most recently with the scholarship of the German Literature Fund. Orths has held poetics lectures in Paderborn and Bamberg.
The play Femme de Chambre won the Prix Théâtre 13. In Baden-Baden, The Removal of the Amygdala was premiered. The Zimmermädchen Lynn came to cinemas in 2015. WDR, NDR, SWR, and HR produced eight radio plays.
Inspired by his own children, he recently also created children's books. In 2026, the fifth volume of the Crazy-Family series will be published: Crazy Family - The Hackebarts rock the school! The children's book Grandpa flies was composed by the composer Michael Langemann and premiered in June 2024 at the Berlin Philharmonic.
