Description
With "Antigone," Bodo Wartke presents the continuation of his successful play "King Oedipus." Together with actress Melanie Haupt, he brings Sophocles' tragedy to the stage as a modern, rhymed theater piece. As in "King Oedipus," Wartke combines clever language, fine humor, and musical lightness into an evening that is both touching and entertaining. Together with dramaturg Carmen Kalisch and director Sven Schütze, he creates a contemporary interpretation that tells the story of Oedipus' eldest daughter and also incorporates the prehistory from "Oedipus at Colonus." This results in a lively, easily understandable, yet profound piece that brings the ancient story into our present. Antigone's courage to oppose state arbitrariness remains a timeless and current topic. Wartke's version shows how relevant questions of responsibility, freedom, and civil courage are even today.
