Description
How can people remain capable of action even in times of multiple crises? And what role do stories play in this, whether we perceive the future mainly as a threat or also as a shapeable realm of possibilities? With a four-day event series from November 11 to 14, 2026, Ima Adama brings science fiction expert and futurist Dr. Isabella Hermann to Switzerland. In Basel, Bern, and Zurich, three public evening events will take place. The finale is a full-day workshop in Zurich. The focus is on community resilience, social prepping, and anti-dystopia. Isabella Hermann explores what we can learn from science fiction about societal, technological, and political developments. She particularly asks how stories about crises, resistance, and social change can influence our perception of the future. In her book "Zukunft ohne Angst. Wie Anti-Dystopien neue Perspektiven eröffnen" (Oekom, 2025), she deals with narratives that do not stop at catastrophe but open up possibilities for action and alternative societal perspectives from crisis situations. Ima Adama complements this scientific and cultural-theoretical approach with the practice of community building, participation, and collaborative future shaping. We will introduce this through the community for ImaLabs and future sites.
