L’Escalade in Geneva is not just about scaling the walls within the city. More or less significant events also take place outside the walls: some are well known, sometimes mixed with a bit of legend, while others have fallen into oblivion today. Patrice Delpin invites you to rediscover this lesser-known aspect of L’Escalade, to revisit certain misconceptions repeated over time, and to shed light on their origins. During this conference, the Geneva historian will also mention a citizen who tragically died during the Duke of Savoie’s expedition, but strangely is completely absent from collective memory: he is the 19th victim of L’Escalade. Nearly a century after Albert Choisy identified Jacques Billon as the 18th victim of the attack, an injustice will be rectified as the 425th anniversary of the Miraculous deliverance of our city approaches...
