Peter Turnley is considered one of the most influential visual chroniclers of contemporary history worldwide. His photographs have graced 43 covers of Newsweek and have appeared in leading media such as National Geographic, LIFE, Stern, or Paris Match. He has been honored multiple times with awards from World Press Photo and the Overseas Press Club Award. Turnley has reported from war and crisis zones from the Gulf War, Bosnia, and Rwanda to Afghanistan and Iraq; he accompanied Nelson Mandela's release and was at Ground Zero after September 11, 2001. He is also known for his poetic, humanistic street and documentary photography – especially for his iconic black-and-white images from Paris, collected among others in the photo book French Kiss – A Love Letter to Paris. In Basel, Peter Turnley will give personal insights into his life's work, speak about ethics and courage in photojournalism, and then answer questions from the audience.
