Description
Suburban town, cemetery, sleeping town, satellite town, recreational area, concrete wasteland, imperial hunting ground, zone border, focal point, periphery, problem district, bird sanctuary, utopia and dystopia: Welcome to Berlin's Gropiusstadt! In its young history, Gropiusstadt has experienced many attributions and descriptions, has been a topic of various planning discussions, and often also a victim of dismissive devaluations. Inspired by Georges Perec's novel "Life: A User's Manual," the theater work of Gropiusstadt's Arthur Romanowski and his team focuses on the stories of the people who live and work there. How did they end up here? What stories shape them? What kind of user manual for life does Gropiusstadt have in store for us? Through intensive research, the team conducted interviews with residents of Gropiusstadt. The biographies are assembled into a mosaic and connect with the biography of the director and performer. Thus, the audience encounters the most diverse stories from Gropiusstadt, creating a unique image of Berlin in the 20th and 21st centuries.
