Description
A month to slow down, get your hands dirty, and discover what you can create with clay. Working with clay has something truly special about it. It is tactile, playful, and a bit unpredictable – you start with a simple lump of earth and gradually transform it into something uniquely yours through your own handiwork. This four-week course provides an introduction to the world of ceramics and the various possibilities of shaping, building, decorating, and experimenting with clay. You will learn the basics of hand forming while having plenty of freedom to explore your own ideas and develop your personal style. Consider this your sign if… 👀
…you’ve been saying for a long time that you need a new hobby.
…a pottery course definitely wasn’t enough.
…your Pinterest suspiciously contains a lot of ceramic images.
…you want to take an evening each week to do something creative.
…you keep looking at handmade ceramics and thinking, “I want to do that too.” You don’t need to know exactly what you want to create – that’s part of the fun. Throughout the course, we will work with techniques such as pinching, coil building, slab forming, and hollowing out, creating about 4–6 pieces. From functional items for home use to more sculptural and challenging forms – there’s something new to discover each week.
And making the pieces is only half the joy. You will also experiment with underglazes, painting techniques, slips, and glazes, learning how color and surface can completely transform your work. No prior ceramics knowledge is required – just come with a willingness to experiment, don’t mind getting a little dirty, and let the clay guide you. All materials, tools, underglazes, glazes, and firing processes are included in the course fee. The course will be conducted in English. OUR PROGRAM Week 1 (October 5) – Getting to Know Clay
Start with the basics and learn your first hand forming techniques: pinching and turning. You will create your first pieces and become familiar with shaping and working with clay. Week 2 (October 12) – Shaping with Slabs
Learn how to shape with slabs and begin creating more structured forms. You will also bring color into play and decorate your works from Week 1 with underglazes. Week 3 (October 19) – Discovering New Forms
Take it a step further with hollowing and more sculptural forms. You will continue to shape new pieces while experimenting with different methods of shaping, painting, and decorating clay. Week 4 (November 2) – The Final Touch
Time to bring everything together. Finish your remaining pieces and decorate them, experiment with slips, and learn the basics of glazing before everything is ready for the final firing. Ready to get your hands dirty? Four weeks to learn, experiment, make mistakes, try new things, and discover what you can do with clay. Whether you are a complete beginner in ceramics or have worked with clay before – you will receive the necessary guidance to learn the techniques while having the freedom to shape the pieces to your liking. Spaces are limited, so contact us to reserve your spot or ask us questions. ✨ Come with curiosity and leave with new skills and a small collection of handmade pieces.
