Le Vent du Nord

Description

For the first time, Le Vent du Nord, a band representing the musical culture of the Canadian province of Québec, is performing at TAK. Originally, the songs were predominantly French-influenced by immigrants from Normandy and Brittany. When Canada became a British colony in 1763, these traditions were preserved in the French-speaking communities of Québec but began to incorporate influences from neighboring Irish and Scottish immigrants. Later, impulses from American folk and finally French chanson were added, creating a unique transhistorical and transatlantic musical style. Le Vent du Nord is a modern, energetic evolution of this tradition. With their typical instrumentation including hurdy-gurdy, bouzouki, and accordion, as well as their warm-hearted Canadian joie de vivre, they have won numerous awards and are among the most interesting folk bands worldwide.
