Each scene, seemingly autonomous, assembles into a unique trajectory: that of Marie Steuber, a timeless woman crossing eras, from Antiquity to today, with the disturbing ability to be reborn at every moment. Between comic and tragic, the play unfolds a universe both absurd and deeply human. Botho Strauss's writing, a major author of contemporary German theater, is distinguished by its finesse, humor, and lucidity about our modern solitudes.
