After "L’Effet de Serge" in 2007, Philippe Quesne arrives with "Le Paradoxe de John". And it is a gem of creative entertainment, formally impeccable, in which he questions with a sharp sense of humor the place of art in everyday life.
The walls, door, and glass bay of Serge are repurposed for John. This naturalistic and rudimentary set design now references the aesthetic of an art gallery. Here is the new setting for the unprecedented adventures of a group of five characters. Serge left his apartment to Annie, who turned it into a studio-exhibition space, where artists are invited to create from nothing or almost nothing. With all the seriousness and fantasy that such an exercise requires, the five performers test different contemporary artistic forms. Together, they compose an atypical polyphonic work made of living tableaux that carry a visual poetry, conducive to the emergence of absurd metamondes.
