Description
Graf Almaviva's household is in disarray: instead of taking care of his wife Rosina, he wants to seduce the chambermaid Susanna. The Count postpones her marriage to his servant Figaro with the most hypocritical reasons. But Susanna is smarter than the Count suspects. In between, Page Cherubino stirs up all kinds of additional erotic confusion. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro," premiered in Vienna in 1786, is now considered the epitome of opera buffa. The libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte is based on Beaumarchais' play "La folle journée ou Le Mariage de Figaro" (1778), which was initially banned in France due to the aristocracy's deception by their servants. Mozart's setting stands out for its psychological depth as well as dramaturgical and compositional sophistication, setting it apart from other operas of the time. The Salzburg genius employs a complex ensemble technique—especially in the famous finale of the second act, which weaves together multiple levels of action. "Le nozze di Figaro" demonstrates Mozart's ability to capture human relationships in musical detail— a key work in the history of opera.
