The Measurement of the World

Description

A collaboration between Theater Fiesemadände and TheaterKorona for youth and adults aged 14 and over (90 min. - with intermission) Toward the end of the 18th century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. One, Alexander von Humboldt, fights his way through jungles and steppes, navigates the Orinoco, tests poisons on himself, counts the lice of the natives, crawls into earth holes, and climbs volcanoes. The other, mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss, who prefers to stay at home and cannot spend his life without women – he also proves in his native Göttingen that space is curved. Old, famous, and a bit peculiar, the two meet in Berlin in 1828. Loosely based on the novel by Daniel Kehlmann, our play tells the lives of these two scientists.
