Description

Nathalie (Isabelle Huppert) is a philosophy teacher at a Parisian high school and is very committed. She also publishes with a small publisher. Her husband teaches at the university. In their intellectually bourgeois household, their adult children are as welcome as their students and possessive mother. Nathalie has hardly thought about the future in her busy everyday life. But one day, her husband reveals that he will leave her for another woman. Confronted with a sudden freedom that also brings loneliness, Nathalie must reinvent herself and her life. With her fifth feature film, Mia Hansen-Løve departs from the theme of youth and reflects in an intense, also ironic portrait of women about the beginning of aging. It deals with questions of happiness, vocation, meaning or nonsense of established structures. The film not only shows the personal search for new ways but also asks whether and how philosophy can be applied to everyday life.
