LET THEM ROT!: ANTIGONE'S PARALLAXE

Description

You think something is happening now. Change. Increase. Development. But in reality: nothing happens. That's how Antigone waits on stage, where she is supposed to recite the same stories of dying over and over again. She will die and be buried hundreds of times. And we will dig her up hundreds of times. We keep repeating the same story, yet we remember nothing. While more and more people die outside, the stage remains empty of their dead. There is no text for them. Provoked by the eternal recurrence of Sophocles' Antigone and under the impression of the brutal events of escalating conflicts worldwide, a group of young theater creators makes the paradoxical attempt to keep Antigone alive precisely by letting her rot. When the story has long become reality – what sense is there in repeating it? And when the world itself becomes a theater of killing – what can theater still be? This personal, physical evening about theater, death, crisis, memory, and resistance was created as part of the Hamburg Young Talent Festival KIEZSTÜRMER. She has appeared at the Altonaer Theater and at the WE PRESENT Festival. IVÁN RUGE grew up between popular and classical music. He studied philosophy, classical singing, and opera directing in Colombia and Italy. In 2026, he will complete his directing studies at HfMT Hamburg. He works as a freelance director and since this season at the Stuttgart State Opera, where he is involved in JOiN (Young Opera in the North). RONGJI LIAO studied theater literature and cultural management in Shanghai and is currently completing a dramaturgy degree at HfMT Hamburg. His focuses are contemporary dramaturgy, performance, and transcultural practice. In the current season, he works as an assistant director at Theater Oberhausen. TRIGGER pulsating light effects
