For years, poet Lara Rüter worked at a primate research institute. In her text Affenliebe, she radically tells about the apes and herself: about beginnings of life and death, about the urge for freedom and touch. In everyday life with the apes, the same question repeatedly arises: what does it feel like to be a human? Hovering over poetic quotes, scientific questions, and moments at the enclosure, this groundbreaking essay shows how writing changes the world. Lara Rüter was born in 1990 in Hanover. She was a prizewinner for poetry at the 26th Open Mike and received the Caroline-Schlegel-Förderpreis for essays in 2020, as well as scholarships and awards. Her poetry debut amoretten in netzen, published in 2024 by Heidelberger Verlag Das Wunderhorn, received the Kranichsteiner Literature Promotion Prize in 2025.
