Description
The documentary film «Landräuber» by Fanny Paloma shows, using the example of the Socfin corporation, why the Corporate Responsibility Initiative is needed. The plantation company Socfin, which conducts a large part of its agricultural trade through Switzerland, is regularly criticized for land conflicts and violations of the rights of local communities related to its palm oil and rubber plantations. Here you can find our Socfin research. The new documentary by Fanny Paloma follows the fight of the indigenous Bunong in Cambodia and the Bagyeli communities in Cameroon for the recognition of their rights in the face of land appropriation, of which they are victims according to the film. Through their court cases, the film sheds light on how those affected by human rights violations can stand up for their rights thanks to laws in Europe. After the film (75’), there will be a short presentation on the topic of corporate responsibility in Switzerland. Additional screenings: Wednesday, November 18, 6:00 PM at PROGR Aula, Bern
