Lakecia Benjamin performs with uncompromising energy and has evolved from a sought-after accompanist for stars like Alicia Keys or Missy Elliott to an independent voice. After jazz-funk beginnings, she dedicated herself in 2020 to her roots in Bebop and Spiritual Jazz with "Pursuance: The Coltranes," a celebrated project with giants like Marcus Strickland, Brandee Younger, Reginald Workman, or Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her album "Phoenix" (2023), which earned her three Grammy nominations, is both a homage to her New York and a personal new beginning after a serious car accident. The work showcases her compositional strength and the creative environment she surrounds herself with. The album marks another rise of an artist who clearly articulates her message while honoring her mentors and traditions. This year, her new work "We Dream," released in June on Artwork Records (PiAS), will open a new chapter.
