Respighi, Rota and Busoni – the second brass concert conducted by chief conductor Pietro Rizzo will be "molto
italiano". The program provides insight into Italian modernism. Starting with Ottorino Respighi's Trittico Botticelliano, in which he impressively sets three paintings by Sandro Botticelli to music, through Ferrucio Busoni's Berceuse élégiaque, which was premiered by Gustav Mahler himself in New York in 1911. The central composer of the evening is Nino Rota, known especially for his Oscar-winning film music.
We will hear his music for Federico Fellini's drama La Strada and his trombone concerto, which is among the most significant works of its genre. The solo part is performed by the Swedish-Swiss trombonist Louise Pollock, who makes her debut in St. Gallen.
