ZUR WOHNUNGSFRAGE 1972 Hans Stürm / Nina Stürm, 1972; 30' D (b/w and color) In the early 1970s, Swiss directors Hans and Nina Stürm created this class-struggle pamphlet against exploitation and profit-oriented housing policy. Inspired by Friedrich Engels’ publication of the same name nearly a hundred years earlier, the film assembles images from Zurich and other cities: long drives along monotonous housing developments, shots of satellite towns, apartment blocks, and large construction sites, as well as interviews with urban planners, architects, representatives of housing companies, and tenants, forming a sharp analysis of capitalist-organized housing construction. DER KOMPLEX Fabienne Boesch, 2002; 31' D•OV/e The Lochergut: a landmark of the former workers' district and a microcosm in the heavily upgraded Kreis 4 today. In 2002, when DER KOMPLEX was filmed, Lochergut was still next to the busy highway entrance. DER KOMPLEX shows the coexistence and interaction within the high-rise estate, where people of different social backgrounds and origins live. SCHMIEDE WIEDIKON – IT'S A PITY Weekly News Video Workshop Kanzlei, 1986; 17' OV Images from Wiedikon are already shown in ZUR WOHNUNGSFRAGE 1972. About ten years later, the 'Citydruck' increased again. The alternative media project Aussersihler Wochenschau documents current developments and resistance in the neighborhood. NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER KANZLEI / Kanzlei Spot On the occasion of the referendum, CH 1990; 1' without dialogue Commercial for the neighborhood center Kanzlei, a hub of alternative cultural and social projects in Kreis 4.
