Description
The permanent exhibition offers visitors a chronological overview of Klee's artistic work and presents around seventy works as well as biographical material and archives, which are regularly changed. Paul Klee (1879–1940) sought new forms of expression as one of the most important artists of modernism, to reflect the social and cultural upheavals of his time. He questions everything taught in Europe and is inspired by children's drawings and non-European cultures as well as the structures and processes of nature. Additionally, he engages with artistic movements such as Expressionism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, and Constructivism, without joining any of these groups. Klee comments on political events in numerous works with ironic distance. The First and Second World Wars had profound effects on Klee's life. His networks break apart, leading to the artist's isolation. In the 'Focus Room,' we organize smaller exhibitions focusing on Paul Klee's work, as well as with artists or on topics with a surprising connection to Klee's work.
