Cinema-Concert: Mutter Krausen's Journey to Happiness

Description

Live music: MURNAU'S HEAD with Altin Asllani (Piano, Electronics), Stephen Thomas (Guitar), León Zehnder (Guitar) & The Weathereye (Drums) Living in a rented tenement in Berlin's working-class district Wedding, Mother Krause desperately tries to gather the necessary money to support her family. But her son Paul spends the little they have and gets involved in criminal activities. Meanwhile, daughter Erna meets the politically engaged worker Max. Is there a way out of the mess? As the main work of proletarian silent film of the Weimar Republic, Mutter Krausens Fahrt ins Glück was an ambitious attempt by the left-leaning Prometheus Film under Willi Münzenberg to create a film with revolutionary attitude for a (also) bourgeois mass audience. The film is understood as an authentic milieu study, largely shot on original locations, uses documentary material, and explicitly refers to the works of Berlin 'Milljöh' cartoonist Heinrich Zille.
