Cinema-Concert: Faust – A German Folk Tale

Description

Live music: Arovane (Electronics) "Convinced of the corruptibility of the human soul, the evil spirit Mephisto makes a bet with the archangel Gabriel that he will snatch the soul of the old scholar Faust from God. Powerless and desperate, Faust must watch the death of his fellow citizens threatened by the plague and dedicates himself to the seducer Mephisto, who grants him youth, wealth, and power. In return, Faust renounces God and his heavenly hosts, becoming increasingly overconfident, leading to a downward spiral that only ends in death. In his adaptation of the Faust story, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau incorporates elements from the ‹Historia von Doktor Johann Fausten› as well as from Marlowe's and Goethe's plays, giving the story a new, quite distinctive twist. Entwined in the metaphysical struggle between good and evil, between light and shadow, there is only one way for humans to escape the religious Middle Ages into the bright modern age: love."
