Description

TANZ Karlsruhe and ZKM present an intermedial dance format that combines artistic practice, AI, and active audience participation. Today, it seems as if AI can do many things. But creating genuine encounters is not one of them. Do they therefore try to avoid it? Two dancers are located at different places within the ZKM. They are accompanied by two halves of the audience each and 'BUGGY', a portable artificial assistant. To reach the performance location and meet physically there, they must navigate through a live-generated parkour. On action fields, BUGGY generates various tasks that the performers must solve. At the destination, the parcours culminates in a choreographed performance that reflects the collaboration between human performers and AI. Live-generated visual projections and speech fragments make the previously invisible interaction with a Large Language Model tangible and expand the stage space with a digital dimension. Connections between choreographic practice and artificial intelligence are rethought. Instead of purely improvisational use, AI is deliberately used as a structuring element. At the same time, its limitations are made visible: while movements can be analyzed, the quality of interpersonal encounters remains outside its logic. How do digital systems influence artistic processes without replacing them? Does this develop into an independent artistic language? Furthermore, a critical discourse on the role of AI in everyday life is initiated, especially regarding questions of corporeality, interaction, and social closeness. The project #touch is implemented as a coproduction of KIESECKER | HOESS TANZ Karlsruhe and ZKM Karlsruhe.
